Kolo Toure admitted that signing for Liverpool provided the "perfect" situation for him to bounce back after losing his place at Manchester City.

The Arsenal Invincible left north London in 2009 to join the Citizens in a £14million transfer where he went on to play a role in their 2011/12 Premier League title triumph.

In his last two seasons in Manchester, Toure struggled to stamp his place in Roberto Mancini's starting XI, with the Ivorian competing for minutes against Joleon Lescott and Matija Nastasic.

He cited his conversation with then-manager Rodgers as a key aspect in him deciding to make the move to the club.

"I could have maybe gone to Turkey or other places but when Brendan told me to come to Liverpool I was so happy, because I knew I could come here and do something and help this great football club.

What a perfect club to bounce back for me."

The former defender lasted three years at Liverpool before he was released in 2016 but not before he experienced what it's like playing for Jurgen Klopp, with the German being appointed boss in October 2015.

While showering the 57-year-old with praise, he previously spoke of the most difficult part of playing under Klopp.

"I think the way Jurgen manages, he manages teams with a lot of energy," Toure said on LFCTV’s Extra Time show.

"He wants the players to work and to work really hard, to run really, really hard.

The first season was really, really difficult for most of the players – including me – because every session was high intensity.
